Moroccan Argan Oil

We've all heard a lot about Moroccan Argan Oil recently. Here is the long and short of it:
Argan oil contains Vitamins F and E. It is also rich in Omega 3 and Omega 9. Argan oil is the type of oil that you don't need a lot of because it will leave your hair feeling greasy. Some benefits of Argan oil are:

  • Tightens & softens skin
  • Reduces wrinkles
  • Revitalizes skin cells
  • Reduces blemishes
  • Pr
    events stretch marks
  • Hydrates the skin
  • Softens cuticles and treats brittle nails
  • Eliminates frizzy hair
  • Prevents split ends
  • Improves elasticity
  • Penetrates the hair shaft
  • Promotes hair growth
  • Works well with air drying

Variety is the spice of life!

How To Fade Dark Spots Naturally

Lemon juice is an effective way to lighten dark spots, whether from acne, age spots or other scaring. Some of us may have even heard of our grandmothers rubbing lemon halves on their elbows and knees. Freshly squeezed lemon juice or bottled lemon juice will do. First, cleanse the scarred area, then soak a cotton ball or q-tip with lemon juice and smooth it over the marks. Leave the juice in place for ten minutes, then rinse and moisturize as normal.

Winterize Your Skin

Keep your skin moisturized everyday, especially in winter. It has been proven that the best moisturizers are those that contain organic oils like olive oil and Avocado oil.

Makeup allergies?

Mineral makeup is a good choice for those with allergies to regular makeup. It usually comes in loose form so it's generally easy to blend, but can get messy at times.

Lush Lashes

Long, lush lashes are a symbol of beauty and femininity. From mascara founded in the 1920's to false lashes in the 1930's to medicinal ointment in 2008, there are things that you can do to maximize their potential. But there are also natural ways to promote lush lashes such as a healthy diet and keeping lashes moisturized with oils like Olive oil or Castor oil. And we can't forget our good old BFF Vaseline! And rember to wash mascara off each night to prevent dry, brittle lashes and breakage.

E. Pearl's March Madness has ended

Stay tuned, there's much more to come!

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#31 - Use a combination of Epsom salt, sea salt and baking soda in your bath to help pull out toxins from your skin.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#30 - Store your nail polish in the refrigerator to maintain its smooth consistency.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#29 - Use a hair dryer to heat your eyelash curler.  The warmth of the eyelash curler will help curl your lashes more efficiently.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#28 - Because your hands can show the telltale signs of aging and sun damage, give them the same attention you give your face. Plump up thin skin - As time goes by, we lose collagen and fat in our hands, so our skin gets thinner. Look for a hand cream with retinol to help support the collagen in your skin. Because thin skin also bruises more easily, be sure you're eating fruits and veggies with vitamin C, which helps strengthen blood vessels. Remove rough patches - While hand sanitizer kills germs, it contains a high concentration of alcohol, which can dry out your hands. Keep them soft and smooth by reapplying hand cream throughout the day. Choose a cream with glycerin (to soften) and urea (to remove dead skin).

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#27 - Powders and pencils last the longest of all makeup, so you can keep them for a long time. Pencils should be sharpened each time you use them and change your powder puffs and clean your brushes regularly for a fresh surface free of bacteria.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#26 - People believe that it is good to scrub the face with soap to get acne free skin. But this is just a myth. Scrubbing the face with soap takes away the natural oils from the face. Drying out the skin too much can make acne worse. It's recommended to always use a gentle cleanser to wash the face and don't scrub too hard.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tip!

#25 - When applying an eyeliner, start from the inside corner of your eye and work outwards toward the outside. All you need is a light application of eyeliner to enhance the beauty of your eyes. Remember not to overdo it.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#24 - Home Remedies for Dark, Puffy Eyes:
• Cover up. Use concealer to camouflage darkness and puffiness.
• Use cold compresses. Cold reduces swelling around your eyes.
• Get rest. Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep, and sleep with your head elevated to keep fluid from collecting under your eyes.
• Keep allergies in check. Avoid triggers and take antihistamines to prevent allergic reactions.
• Avoid salty food. Stick with foods that won’t cause puffiness.

MARCH MADNESS 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#23 - If you use brushes for your blush or foundation, make sure you wash them at least once a week. It's more hygienic, and it'll help your makeup look smooth and flawless.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#22 - Easy10 step at home pedicure: 1) Soak your feet in a milk bath, equal parts milk and warm water. 2) With a drop of cuticle oil and an orangewood stick, push back your cuticles. 3) File your toe nails straight across. 4) Buff callused skin with a pumice stone. 5) Rub feet with an exfoliating scrub. 6) Pour out the foot soak and rinse your feet. 7) Moisturize with lotion. 8) Wipe nails with polish remover. 9) Apply a base coat. 10) Apply 2 coats of color and 1 clear top coat. Let them dry for at least 10 minutes. If you're impatient like me, use a quick-dry spray to set the polish.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#21 - Something that's often forgotten is to replace your mascara every 2-3 months. Old mascara is full of germs.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#20 - No one likes a pretty face with a foul mouth. Here are a few tips on how to maintain a fresh mouth to match your fresh face:
• Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
• Floss daily
• Drink water, chew sugarless gum or suck on sugarless hard candy to stimulate the flow of
saliva and keep your mouth moist.
• Don’t smoke.
• Don’t eat foods with strong odors.
• See your dentist at least twice a year to have your teeth checked and cleaned.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#19 - "The secret of the Universe: Prep, correct, conceal, set." - Bobbi Brown. In other words: moisturize the skin, conceal blemishes and imperfections, then set it all in with powder. These simple steps will help you to achieve a flawless finish!

Sunday, March 18, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#18 - Shave your legs at the end of your shower. This gives your skin and hair more time to soften up. If the hair is softer, your razor will be able to cut it more easily, and you won't have to go over the same spot as many times. This will also slow the dulling of your razor blade, which will lessen the number of nicks and scrapes.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#17 - With the hot, humid weather approaching we could all benefit from a good oil control tip. Soak up grease and make pores look smaller with a tomato mask. Cut a tomato in half and rub it on your face, focusing on your t-zone. Leave the juice on 10 minutes, then rinse.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#16 - Rub away rough patches on hands, feet, knees, and elbows with a mixture of olive oil and either sea salt or sugar. The olive oil moisturizes while the salt or sugar grains exfoliate your skin.

Friday, March 16, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#15 - After you paint your nails, add a shiny topcoat. And if you're impatient like me, look for one labeled "quick dry." You can also run your nails under cold water to harden the polish quicker, and then rub a little petroleum jelly on each nail to prevent smudging.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#14 - Yes, face and body moisturizers help nourish your skin, but there is one thing that tops any product on the shelves, WATER!

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31days/31 beauty tips!

#13 - Winged liquid eyeliner on the top lash line is ultra glam. It will make your lashes appear longer and thicker. But be precise in your application, liquid eyeliner can be a bit tricky. Use makeup remover and a q-tip or wipes to clean up any mistakes.

Monday, March 12, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#12 - When you're down to your last drop of foundation or concealer, don't toss it just yet. Scrape it out with a butter knife or an object small enough for the container, then put it in some aluminum foil. Then apply it with a brush or sponge and get your full monies worth. Every penny counts now-a-days!

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#11 - This one may be a shocker, but its been said that using preparation H under the eyes can take away those morning bags. I have not tried this yet, but I wouldn't count it out! The things we women do in the name of beauty...

Saturday, March 10, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#10 - Five minute face: skip concealer and only apply your foundation all over instead. Apply one neutral eye shadow color from lid to brow or just on your lid. Apply mascara on both top and bottom lashes. Apply bronzer/blush on cheeks. Then apply lip stain or gloss. And just that quick your out the door looking stylish as ever!

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#9 - Lip Conditioner can be used on dry spots and patches on your eyelids and face. The deep conditioning properties help to penetrate the dry skin cells. This really works well, especially in the dry winter months. And as always, I swear by cocoa butter products, including lip conditioner.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#8 - If you wear a scarf on your hair at night, add an extra layer of protection by putting moisturizer around your edges.

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#7 - When plucking your eyebrows, try shaping them in accordance with your facial features. This will enhance your personal looks. Not everyone can wear the same shape and no two eyebrows are the same. You can even try an eyebrow stencil to help you along. Or better yet, contact us! We'll do it for you! www.epearl.vpweb.com

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#6 - Dramatic eyes are best when worn at night. A dramatic smokey eye is perfect for a night out on the town. Save it for special occasions so as not to wear off the appeal.

Monday, March 5, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#5 - When applying product to your face always try to rub in an upward motion.  This will help massage your facial muscles in the right direction and help prevent wrinkles.

Sunday, March 4, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#4 - We all love to wear dark, warm nail polish colors especially in the Fall and Winter seasons. But if you don't wear artificial nails, dark nail polish can stain your real nails. If this happens, soak them in denture cleaner to remove the discoloration.

Saturday, March 3, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#3 - Yes, brown-skinned ladies can wear vivid colors on their lips too! Apply foundation to your lips by lining them with a precision brush. This will help the color stay true to the shade, as well as keep it from bleeding. Then apply your vivid color. The result, flawless bold lips!

Friday, March 2, 2012

MARCH MADNESS! 31 days/31 beauty tips!

#2 - Change your pillow cases and head scarf weekly so that the oils from your hair don't transer to your face causing breakouts.

Thursday, March 1, 2012

March Madness! 31days/31 beauty tips!

#1 - Got dark circles under your eyes? Use the right camouflage. Orange and blue are opposite each other on the color wheel, so dab a little bit or orange based cover-up under your eyes to get rid of the bluish tint of the dark circles . Then apply your concealer. And ta-da! No more dark circles!

Cream Eye Shadow

In preparation for an upcoming event I was trying to decide on what makeup look I want to achieve. I decided to try a cream shadow that I've used in the past, its actually one that can be used as a shadow or cheek color. So, I'd like to share a bit of advice... If you have oily lids stay away from cream eye shadows as they have a tendency to crease faster. If you do use cream shadow make sure to use a shadow primer before application and apply a thin dusting of powder shadow over it to set it. This will help prevent creasing.

Photo shoot

E. Pearl's first official photo shoot pt. 1 was a TOTAL SUCCESS! Pt. 2 next Friday. Stay tuned for the reveals!

Men and Eyebrow Grooming

I'm sure you've all seen the guys walking around with thin perfectly waxed and shaped brows. You've also seen other guys wearing caterpillars for eyebrows. Let me say first, I love a perfectly shaped brow... on a woman. Men are supposed to be manly and a little scruffy looking, unless you're a metrosexual of course, do ya thang. But for the average guy, leave the brows alone. Lightly trim them with scissors if they are wild looking, and always get rid of a unibrow, but please leave the perfectly manicured and arched brows for the ladies.

Concealer: Application and product recommendations

Concealer is used to cover over skin blemishes and imperfections.  Be sure you know what your skin undertones are before purchasing (see post from October 4th).  It should also be one shade lighter than your skin tone because it has to blend the darker, blemished pigmentation and your natural skin tone into one flawless tone.  And I can say from experience, do your research and read reviews.  I recently purchased a concealer by Cover Girl Queen Collection to try something different.  The color was perfect but the consistency was watery.  I added powder to try and bulk it up, which kind of worked, but not to the consistency that a concealer should be in order to do its job, which is to conceal.  I do not recommend this product.  Recommended concealers: #1 Mary Kay, #2 Loreal.  Of course Mary Kay has to be purchased through a consultant, but if you are looking to make a purchase at your local drug store, Loreal does the job well.  Both offer an array of shades and the consistency is perfect.  When applying, you can use a concealer brush, but I prefer the tip of my finger to dab it on and blend it in.  Once your concealer is applied, apply your foundation and/or powder to create that flawless finish.  (All of the above applies to under eye highlighter for dark circles as well).
